I recently read Here is New York by E.B. White. For those unfamiliar, it is a love letter to to 1948 New York. I'm not from the US, and have never been to New York, and this book was recommended by a friend who isn't from the US either, but it is now my favorite book. I've never before encountered such beautiful prose. I found myself pausing frequently just to take in the beauty and pure creativity that White writes with. I was truly mindblown. Can you suggest me a fiction books with beautiful prose?

I would assume that I'd be more likely to find similar prose in the classic literature section, but I'd also be curious to see if such prose exists in the realm of fantasy, for example.

Can't wait to read your answers! In the meantime I'll go ahead and re-read White's book.

    1. I really love Maggie O’Farrell ‘s writing in Hamnet and The Marriage Portrait. It’s lush, beautiful prose that really takes you right into the times (Shakespearean England and 16th-century Italy, respectively).
