Keep in mind that I read it several years ago thus don't fully remember the character names and plot points. Of course it had some of the typical YA tropes at the time, such as teenage romance (especially when they focus on the physical descriptions of certain characters) and alternate dystopian future (where the government hides a conspiracy where they're purposefully injecting a disease to the populace). Several concepts I found interesting was how the alternate history of the United States had the country divided into East and West with both being run differently, and I liked how they managed to build a civilization in Antarctica. Personally for me,
However, the concept was quite intriguing and the stories were fast-paced enough but followed an appropriate trajectory. Of course being a YA novel, some emotional parts were somewhat melodramatic (especially with certain characters' deaths) but appropriately placed. One gripe I have is that the series should have ended with "Champion". Day should have stayed dead or lost his memory forever; June should have been mature enough to grow up and move on. Instead, Day eventually conveniently remembers everything in "Rebel", and he and June get married. It just feels like a cheaper, unearned ending.
Anyone else read these books? What did you think?
