Okay, I’m actually super into this right now and reading Joyce Johnson’s Minor Characters about the women of the beat generation. She goes on about how women of that generation had very different adventures due to the societal expectation and pressure on them. It is fascinating. Next up I’ll read Memoirs of a Beatnik by Diane di Prima also of the same social circles.

I was just going to thank you for posing this question since I didn’t realise I was looking for something exactly like this! Came across [this Bustle article](https://www.bustle.com/p/7-female-beat-writers-to-read-instead-of-jack-kerouac-43532#:~:text='Minor%20Characters'%20by%20Joyce%20Johnson&text=Johnson's%20memoir%20is%20fascinating%20not,in%20a%20male%2Ddominated%20industry) and even **Maddy_egg7** seems to be echoing this! lol
I think I’m going to look for these books myself. Thanks! Enjoy your reading pile!
