I’ve been interested in reading more sword and sorcery type fantasy books, though I’m looking for something a bit more contemporary. I know Robert E. Howard is the father of the genre, but I haven’t vibed with his writing style (though I love the Conan the Barbarian movies). Have there been any good sword and sorcery books that have been written more recently? Thanks in advance!

The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman is very good, but the MC is a young thief on the run instead of a barbarian.
Are you open to sword & sorcery suggestions that are older than the past 10-20 years (but not as old as Robert E. Howard’s Conan books, most of which were written in the 1930s)?
The 1960’s and 1970’s were a high point for the sword & sorcery genre and there are a *lot* of works from that time frame that (a) are considered classics today and (b) feel far more “modern” in their sensibilities than Howard.
Jonathan Moeller writes pulp fantasy, very much some sword and sorcery stuff.
