Just finished a couple dark books and am looking for something light and vaguely fantastical, that preferably doesn't have an abusive, alcoholic parent. I have enjoyed, in the past, Little, by Edward Carey. I like historical fiction and fantasy. I admire Mark Helprin and Elif Batuman, and, in general, books that try to balance heavy themes with levity or humor.
Any suggestions are most appreciated!
