I'm really craving reading an emotional book about someone suffering from despair or depression or perhaps they're too scared of change? deciding on their own, or with the help of a friend, to work to get past this (and succeeding).
If they are being saved by someone that person should not be a love interest at any point and should stay as a friend (I want a book that venerates friendship itself).
I don't get on well with older writing styles so preferably books from the 80s and later.
Fantasy or SciFi would be ideal but not necessary.
Books that I love that I think fit what I'm after:
{{Healers Road by S E Robertson}} – an unlikely pairing form a deep and respectful bond of friendship over the course of their travels. fantasy, with some (but very little) magic.
{{I'm sorry you feel that way by Rebecca Wait}} – a contemporary tragic comedy (or comedic tragedy) about generational trauma and breaking the cycle.
