I want to give my mom a piece of literature this year as a gift but I don't know where to start. Our taste may coincide a lot but we have only ever bonded over movies, and books are a different conversation altogether. With the age difference, our media consumption is vastly different from one another. For another, I find it easier to consume the books that have been out in progression over the years.

Could you suggest a book that is very easy to digest for someone who don't have much time on their hands and thus may have very little patience for convoluted narratives, and for someone who may appreciate a touch of straightforwardness in the storyline?

She loves a good thriller. If the book can punch in a good mystery, that's another star as well. She's good on the crime genre. She'd much rather laugh than cry from drama. But any other genres with a good story that someone in their 50's would gain deeper insights from are welcome, too. Maybe she'd even love a non-fiction book.

What's a book you've given or suggested to your mom? Or, if you are a mother, as well, who may have experienced the same kind of predicament my mother will face when reading literature, what books have you read that are well worth your time?
