I’m planning to start reading the Lord of the Ring series but I wanted to ask if I should start with the Hobbit or with the first one of LOTR.

I would start with ‘The Hobbit’ : it introduces some of the characters you will find back in LOTR, it gives you an impression of the Middle Earth and it is a story that is more approachable than LOTR, which can be intimidating at times…

Hobbit first. It’s written for a younger audience than LOTR, but it’s still great and it sets up a lot of the backstory.
