I really struggle to get into hetero romance despite wanting to because most that I’ve found are so painfully heteronormative and patriarchal. I just want to read about a hetero couple where the dynamic isn’t big strong man and small helpless baby woman, you know? And preferably without smut. If you have any recs, please share!

For hilarious fantasy rom coms, try RJ Blain. The dynamics are different in each one, I’d start with Playing with Fire, then read the blurbs of the others to see which stories you think sound the most interesting. They’re all smut free.
The Paradox triolgly by Rachel Bach. It’s a space opera with a truly wonderful (and appropriately angsty) romance, that blossoms throughout the three books. Devi, the Mc, is anything if the helpless baby woman, and seriously such an amazing character- you’ll feel like you’re rooting and fighting for her throughout the entire book. Just a character you really admire and wish you were friends with. The love interest is just very loveable. The plot itself is super interesting- the setting isn’t that unique but the actual conflicts are, and there’s some great suspense and mystery. There is some smut, but not much, probably once each book, maybe twice in the last, and it’s not particularly relevant to the book- you can skim past.
