I recently read the following and am looking for similar suggestions:

By David McCullough
And
Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine, and the Murder of a President

**Imperial Twilight** or **Autumn in the Heavenly Kingdom** by Platt. Both focused on China, but it’s important to that time and place.
**Dreadnought** by Massie also covers the politics just after the Victorian era to the First World War very well if you’re interested. I might even re-read that one myself.
I never read those so I don’t know if it’s similar but “the children’s book” by A.S. Byatt is the end of the Victorian era and the beginning of the next era (can’t remember what it’s called). It incorporated WW1 toward the end of the book and is historical fiction. The beginning is kind of slow but is amazing in the second half.
