I’m realizing that some of my most favorite thrillers and mysteries are when I go into a book not knowing anything and not reading any reviews. The smallest details spoil the book for me and I won’t want to read it anymore! Does anyone else feel this way, and what are the books you feel paid off for you going into it not knowing the plot/ratings? I’m in a huge reading slump and appreciate any suggestions! Thank you!

The Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith
The Eight by Katherine Neville! I knew nothing about it (and if I had I might not have picked it up because it’s a little different than what I normally read) and it turned out to be one of my favorite books.
Just read “The Dinner” based on seeing it in another thread about couldn’t-put-down-thrillers and it delivered! It’s also not terribly long (4-5 hour read), which made it easy to blast through
Sometimes People Die. Simon Stephenson.
The Passengers. John Marrs.
the dresden files by jim butcher
Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough
I knew nothing about the story and the book, and I was absolutely shocked – my jaw was on the floor at the end! I am yet to find another thriller with such a crazy plot, loved this one.
And I totally understand how you feel, I tend to make the same mistakes and spoil the book by reading reviews or the blurb.
ps There’s also a show on Netflix, based on this book. If you haven’t seen the show yet, I strongly recommend you read the book first. The show isn’t that bad, but I feel like they left quite a few details and bits out.
I Let You Go by Clare MacKintosh- awesome twist. The Holiday by T M Logan was great too. Lisa Jewell does some good thrillers too.
I enjoyed Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn but I think the movie means that it’s hard going in without any spoilers, I did enjoy her other books too.
The Inner Circle by Brad Meltzer. I got gifted it and the synopsis for the book just doesn’t do it justice. Such a great mystery and a HUGE page turner! One of the few books I read this year that I just couldn’t put down.
So, not a thriller or mystery, but I went in completely blind to Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson and I am so glad I did! Try it out!
Mystery/thrillers good to go in blind:
Gone Girl
Rock Paper Scissors
When We Were Liars
The Summer That Melted Everything
Nightbitch
The Push
My Murder
Shit Cassandra Saw
Bunny
In The Woods, Tana French. I am telling you absolutely nothing else about it but it is one of the most compelling thriller/mystery novels I’ve read in the last five years and the series it kicks off is absolutely fantastic.
The Wayward Pines trilogy by Blake Crouch
The crooked house by Agatha Christie
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. Actually went in with low expectations as I had read Gone Girl a while ago and not really liked it. Opposite for Sharp Objects though, would recommend!!
The Ten Thousand Doors of January – kind of fits in your gene request, but it’s so good!
Your brave for reading any book without viewing the synopsis first.
The Kind Worth Killing
Tana French Dublin Murder Squad series.
The Chalkman!
True Crime Story; The Sundown Motel; Daisy Darker
The Lost Apothecary
Sharp Objects I read before it was made into a miniseries. Definitely better not knowing what was coming.
any japanese locked room mysteries on the Pushkin Vertigo roster, I read a few of them and have been reading them in one sitting each time to find out what happens
