The reason I have always loved the Song of Ice and Fire books is because of how expansive the world is. I love how generations of history shape character’s motivations/actions/relationships/character arcs – it's a generational saga on the next level. Are there any other series (or long novels) that are equally effective in this regard? The genre doesn't matter to me. I love generational stories, but most of the others I have enjoyed are standard-length novels that leave me wanting more.
