Just thought this could be an interesting discussion that would lead to cool recommendations.
When I have really liked a book, I have a tendency to read more from the same author. However, after a few books, authors often start to sound the same in a fatiguing way, even if the plot is unique and interesting. Some examples I can think of include Steven King, Blake Crouch, and Chuck Palahniuk. Sometimes author's books are vastly different from each other but somehow still the same. Or there really isn't much variation in their writing style, so it all starts to blend together. I'm always impressed by an author who can make their voice sound different depending on the story they are telling. For example, I enjoyed that Sharp Objects and Gone Girl were similar genres but felt like very different books. The main characters in each had distinct traits that brought out different thoughts and feelings for me.
Suggest me an author whose books don't all hit the same beats. Alternatively, suggest me a book that is dramatically different from the rest of that author's catalogue.
