I finished this book a few days ago and have been ruminating on some of the characters. One of the things I loved about it is the fully fleshed characters, not a bit of them is two dimensional – they are all complicated in their own ways. Except Mick’s mother. It occurred to me that she’s hardly even in the narrative and never in any meaningful way. I can’t figure out if it was just bc the author didn’t want to spend too much time on that family, taking away from other elements of the story, or if it was unintentional (doubtful?), or if it was bc the very absence of involvement showed how very little Mick really thought about the woman? I honestly don’t know, just found it odd on reflection.
