Before studying abroad in BCN, I read Shadow of the Wind which not only was an amazing book, but provided a little extra magic when walking around the city during my time there. The connection between the different characters and their relation to physical locations helped me feel as though I was living in the book.
This upcoming summer I will be in Japan for 3 months, and am looking for a book that would help me have a similar, magical, experience. In terms of style- Im open to any suggestions! I love books that encapsulate adventure and going into the unknown for the sake of following dreams / exploration etc etc…
Although these are my preferences, I am more than happy to take recs from any book that fulfills the main objective.
I know this may be a bit specific, but anything helps.. Thank you!

You are in luck, because Zafon reads like a Spanish Murakami. If you liked Shadow of the Wind read Kafka on the Shore.
