In my teens/twenties I devoured James Herbert books, but have never found other authors that compare for pure shock horror. Nearest I've found was Clive Barker and Richard Laymon.
So I'm looking for recommendations for adult horror (monster/supernatural) that just don't hold back. I find Stephen King too tame, and have read a lot of Dean Koontz but feel he's more of a thriller writer with horror round the edges.
