I'm close to finishing the kite runner and I was hoping to find some recommendations for my next read. For me, the kite runner has been a somewhat heavy read so I'm looking for something very light. Just a pleasant, slice of life type read but still having a mature tone. I'm open to a romance but hesitant since I've never paid attention to the genre before. In case that's a bit too vague, my go-to's are the book thief, orphan train, the glass castle, brain on fire, and someone who will love you in all your damaged glory. So yeah, something with a similar prose without being totally depressing pretty please.

If you’re open to very long books, I highly recommend [The Hands of the Emperor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/af2bba9c-8f41-4a3e-b87a-8532a44ccb67) by Victoria Goddard! It’s a beautifully written slice of life book about the personal secretary to the emperor of the world, with a heavy focus on platonic relationships.
