The other day I made a post criticizing “The Secret History”. Right after that I got a lot of comments agreeing with my take but there were also others that disagreed. I started thinking to myself about how often I make posts about books I actually loved compared to those I didn’t like all that much. It seems that I, like many other readers, are quicker to express our thoughts about the books we hate much more than we share about the books we love. I didn’t feel good to be putting out more negativity in the world and so I think more positivity especially in the book review world would serve us all for the better. Happy Sunday !!!

    1. Nah. Reviews are meant to express how we felt about a book. Sometimes that’s negative and that’s fine.

It’s not putting out more negativity to the world.

    2. At least for me, the elements that make a book fail jump out way more easily compared to the elements that make it good.

I think its because most of the books we read are mostly well thought of. Unless youre intentionally picking up obscure books, or hated books, what we read is mostly liked by a good amount of people. If you read a recommended book there is a good chance that disliking the book puts you in the vast minority of reviewers. Looking up books you’ve read you’ll probably find a dozen positive reviews and maybe one negative, so you might see a good amount of engagement with the negative review. Even people who loved the book will likely check out the review for the sake of curiosity.
