so i'm usually a sucker for fantasy, but lately ive really been into history fiction.

ive read so many books but only recently ive had the pleasure to read the secret history, and holy f u c k that book was so amazing I read it twice.

i read if we were villains next and currently started reading the atlas six, but i just gotta say i miss the vibes of tsh and iwwv.

does anybody have good recommendations for a dark-ambiance book with slight lgbtq moments? i cannot find anything and im tired of getting dead poets society recommended to me as only other option.

    thank you all sm!!
    love you

    1. I’ve read historical fiction and I’ve read books with a dark ambiance and LGBTQ moments, but sadly I haven’t read one with both! So here are some that are one or the other.

      * Babel by R. F. Kuang. Historical fantasy with some vague hints of LGBTQ moments. This is probably the closest to what you are looking for.

      * Leech by Hiron Ennes. Dark ambiance (this is gothic horror) and LGBTQ moments. But it’s set in a post apocalyptic future.

      * The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie. Fantasy, LGBTQ moments.

      * Amatka by Karin Tidbeck. A dystopian novel that reminds me a little of 1984. The central lesbian relationship is largely offscreen but it’s a main driver of the plot.

      * Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield. This is set in a modern-ish time period. I’d call it magical realism. It has a very dark ambiance.

      * Kindred by Octavia E. Butler. No LGBTQ moments, but this is the best historical fiction I’ve ever read.

For historical fiction with dark ambiance & lesbians you’ll want books by Sarah Waters like Fingersmith, The Paying Guests, & Tipping the Velvet
