I'm getting back into reading after a 10-ish year break. When I was in college, my favorite authors were Haruki Murakami, Neil Gaiman, Chuck Klosterman, David Foster Wallace, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jane Austin, David Sedaris, Tolkien, and Douglas Adams.
I really enjoy hard science fiction (Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir got me back into reading), magical realism (though I've tried Gabriel Garcia Marquez and didn't find his writing as cozy as Murakami, personally), and comedic essayists.
I have noticed that most of the authors I read are men, and I'd like to get out of this bubble and check out more diverse authors. I get overwhelmed in bookstores and often gravitate toward "classic" authors, but that can be kind of a homogenous group. So if you have recommendations for authors that have similar vibes to the ones listed above, I'd love to hear about them!
