Suggest me an ergodic book like House of Leaves and S
I'm looking for a book with a similar format, half book, half puzzle, filled with cyphers/morse code/maps/etc. but NOT horror.
I already read The Raw Shark Texts and Illuminae.
I’m reading Godel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid right now. It’s not quite as experimental in its format as the other two, but it’s definitely like solving a puzzle to understand. It’s about formal systems and number theory, and how self referential logic can result in really interesting emergent properties. Probably not an enjoyable read if you’re not into thinking deeply into the underpinnings of math and logic. But I’ve been enjoying it immensely!

Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov is structured similarly to House of Leaves and predates it by about 40 years. It’s kind of the OG “the real story is in the notes” book. Lots of puzzles and secrets… one of which I believe remained unsolved for about 30 years. There’s also an abundance of academic literature written about Pale Fire that is a lot of fun to delve into once you’ve read the book a couple of times.
