I hope this isn’t too broad of a question, but I want to learn more about history, culture, and the world around me through works of fiction. Anything that can provide historical and cultural context to what was/is happening in the real world. I do have a special interest in classical period at the moment but I’d be interested in any time period or geographic setting!
Some examples i’ve read that come to mind: Homer’s Iliad, the Aeneid, the Jungle, the good earth, uncle tom’s cabin, and all the light we cannot see.
Any suggestions are welcome, thank you so much!

Thomas Mann, The magic mountain
Robert Musil, The man without qualities
Isabel Allende’s books are mostly historical fiction so she’s a great author
*Snow Flower and the Secret Fan* by Lisa See has a lot of cultural info.
