    1. It’s tough with no violence at all but the best I can think of is Jigsaw Jones and Encyclopedia Brown. The Mysterious Benedict Society has light violence but it’s appropriate for a ten year old.

There’s a brilliant YA novel called [**Anna’s World**](https://www.google.com/books/edition/Anna_s_World/BHBiNwAACAAJ?hl=en), by Wim Coleman and Pat Perrin, following the titular 15 year old growing up in 1840s New England. She lost her mother to typhoid in early childhood, and her small hometown and father’s business were destroyed by a flood. While her father tries to build a new business in Boston, Anna’s send to live in a Shaker community, where the first 2/3 of the book is set. She then returns to her father, now established in Boston, only to question to superficiality and moral implications of urban society (of the time).
