I know the story about Mark and the murder of John Lennon like yes that’s crazy but he was fucked in the head not because of the book but because his brain is fucked. He therefore interrupts creative works really fucked up too then. Personally I really liked the book but I don’t think it’s political or anything at all. I think it’s just about a troubled mentally unwell kid who got the wrong foot in life and I think he is very human. He can be very questionable at some points but like he’s a kid, human and far from perfect and needs to find his path in life. I really liked the ending too because it didn’t make him magically a better person but it did end with him going back to his family and reuniting with his sister which I thought was really nice. I personally interpreted that as him now starting to get back on the track but still of course long way to go but he’s now at least trying
I think it’s important to ask why someone like a book I don’t personally think it’s healthy to judge people just right off the bat. It’s also a really great conversation starter

What on earth gave you the impression Holden Caulfield went back to his family at the end of the story?
He’s either arrested and assigned to a one flew over cuckoo’s nest era mental health facility or in some kind of forced mental health care facility that his parents forced him into after he was expelled.
The entire framing device is him talking about what happened to his shrink about what happened and he can’t get out of here unless he does.
