Quite a few people recommended this book to me, and I can’t understand the hype.
The characters are so poorly drawn and unbelievable. She can’t write male relationships and all the dialogue rings false.
100 pages in, I can kinda see where this all going. It all just feels contrived and sentimental, there’s no real tragic vision of the human condition that would make me feel concerned.
It all feels so self-conscious. I can’t really stand anymore romanticisation of these faux-bohemian middle class New Yorkers huffing on the fumes of their own cultural capital.
