Finished it today and it left me wondering whether it was the first case of a character directly meeting and interacting with the author in the world literature.
It looks like Unamuno was writing postmodern fiction in the times when even Modernism was only nascent (the novel was written in 1907 and first published in 1914.)
I’d like to read some scholarly analysis of it, but all I can see is available only in Spanish, which I don’t read. If anyone can point me to some resources on the topic, I’ll appreciate it.
