First time posting here so sorry if I mess up any of the rules.
So I have $10 credit that I got for the Google play store and I’m thinking of using it on a ebook. Sci-fi and historical fiction are my 2 favorite genres but I’m open to trying different genres. The last book I finished was Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter and I’m reading Stephen King’s The Shining right now. I’d prefer if it was a standalone book, not part of a series or anything like that.

I HIGHLY suggest Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell by Susannah Clark.
~~Birdy by William Wharton.~~
not historical or sci fi. still a great book. have you read the princess bride yet?
Historical fiction: “The Pillars of the Earth” by Ken Follett
The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter. It’s about a frontier boy raised by Indians.
**The Stand by Stephen King**
A masterwork of epic disaster fiction and dark fantasy, one of King’s most popular books.
**Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell**
A genre-bending, time-twisting, world-hopping adventure, at once funny and scary, thrilling and thoughtful.
**The Book Thief by Markus Zusak**
A touching historical narrative set in WWII Germany, about a young girl’s love for books amidst the chaos of war.
Anxious People by Fredrik Backman was my favorite book ever. An accidental hostage situation teaches us that what we think about people we first meet may not be true. Crazy twists and truly beautiful lines that stuck in my head. Also incredibly funny
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein
The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco
*Into the Drowning Deep* by Mira Grant (there is a short prequel novella that was published later, but the book is absolutely a standalone).
Follow up to the shining is doctor sleep. I enjoyed it too
