    Hi.

    My sister just found out she has stage four cancer and is going in a week for surgery. She trusts my taste in books, and asked me to get her some books to read during recovery, chemo, etc. I'm not exactly sure WHAT she wants to be reading at this moment. It's all quite sad because she has a 1 year old daughter.

    I was thinking of getting her some books to take her mind off of dying, books that are not about people overcoming illness, etc. I just keep thinking, if I were in the same position, I would not want to read about other people being sick (even if the ending is good).

    I'm a little bit in shock, so I'm not thinking or google searching well. But figured people here might have some suggestions of books that are cool, interesting, not overly sentimental, spiritual but not overly so, good books during dark nights of the soul, etc etc.

    Again, I am not sure what the right point of view is here. But figure, this is a good place to start. Books that you might like to read or re-read if you were sick and bored and nauseous, sad, lonely, worried….

    I'd probably want to read historical adventure books, but that's just me. :}

    Thanks in advance.
