It doesn’t need to be horror, just something that both upsets you or makes you squirm, but you have to continue in the hope of a resolution. I know lots of people consider page turners to be exciting or dramatic or action packed, but what’s a book that has affected you to the point that you’re just uneasy?

Empire of the Sun by Ballard. Uneasy is the right word here.
I’m reading One Last Secret by Adele Parks atm. I’m half way through and it’s freaking me out .
Cormac McCarthy’s *The Road*
The spy who came in from the cold. Don’t want to spoil it, but the realisation of the protagonist that he is just a pawn on a chess board, it is deeply unsettling.
Geek Love – Katherine Dunn. Totally messed up.
A couple of scenes in American Psycho made me squirm.
The Wizard of The Nile by Matthew Green still makes me feel uneasy because it isn’t fictitious.
The Bone Collector by Jeffrey Deave, but not the movie. . The book created me out. When the movie came on I told my wife she shouldn’t watch it since she is far more sensitive than I am. I watched it and didn’t capture the terror and creepiness of the book. I readvabfew other Deaver booksvand found them unsettling too.
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy and Tender Is The Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica are both deeply unsettling.
