I’m in the mood for some vampire books

I’ve read Bram stokers Dracula, George RR Martins Vevre Dream, Anne Rice’s Interview With a Vampire (1), Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot and I’m a rather big fan of the Netflix castlevania show (tho I’ve not seen Nocturne yet)

If you want a goofier vampire read, {{Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore}}. It’s part of the Love Story series, and takes place in the same universe as some of his other series.

This is honestly a huge genre. There’s vampire horror, waaaaay too much vampire romance, vampire comedy, sad goth vampire drama, and then there’s the stuff that belongs in plain brown wrappers…

I’d suggest browsing some of the short story collections to try different authors, then look up the full novels written by those authors.

I remember these off the top of my head:

_A Whisper of Blood_, Ed. Ellen Datlow

      _The Ultimate Dracula_

The Historian by Elisabeth Kostova is great. It has lots of information on the historical Vlad Dracul, beautiful crafted characters, travel across Europe and at least to me a similar vibe as Dracula by Bram Stoker.

    5. The Department 19 series by Will Hill is an action packed contemporary take on the Dracula universe.

    6. **Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu**
      Before Dracula, there was Carmilla.

      **The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova**
Historical twist on the vampire tale, intertwining with the legend of Dracula.

    7. empire of the vampire is as close to castlevania as your probably going to get book 2 comes out next year

    8. *Vampires Never Get Old*, edited by Zoraida Córdova and Natalie C. Parker is a nice collection of short stories, told in different time periods and perspectives.

The *Anno Dracula* series by Kim Newman is a fun alternate history, absolutely loaded with references to horror culture and bloodsucker fiction. Newman has a strong inclination towards the grotesque, however, so you do need a strong stomach for some parts of it.

*Empire of the Vampire* by Jay Kristoff. Not so much a recommendation as I only got this one myself and haven’t started reading it, but it’s a relatively new book and I figured it couldn’t hurt to raise awareness of it.

    9. *Vampire$* by John Steakley – gorey modern day tale, a fun read

Someone else mentioned short story collections – I found *The Mammoth Book of Vampires* at my local library and it has LOTS of good stuff. Highly recommend

The Passage (and the other two books in the trilogy) by Justin Cronin is my favorite vampire book.
