Hi, so I'm in need for some good book recommendations because im going on a road trip with my extended family soon and would appreciate some good books to pass the time.
Would prefer a female lead, but not opposed to a male lead, the main character just needs to be compelling and have good development. Or both a male and female lead with switching perspectives.
A romance subplot is fine, but not it being a full on romance book or the romance subplot between characters overshadowing the main plot. I've read too many books where this happens and honestly…. not a fan.
Fantasy or Sci-Fi (or a mix of both) with good world building and decent explanation of the world's magic/power system, I'm also partial to them being based on irl cultures and mythology, but that might be too specific.
I wouldn't mind a few mildly spicy scenes but no straight up smut please 🙏 (it may sound childish, but I don't feel comfortable with it since I'll be in an extremely close proximity with my whole family, which includes my cousins who are young. I also don't need their judgement and to make things awkward the entire trip if they decide to "borrow" the book)
The main plot should be compelling, which is probably the most important thing lmao.
I realise this is probably too specific and nitpicky and probably won't be able to find something that checks all these boxes.
But I would appreciate some book recommendations anyway!
