The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon — I highly recommend this lovely, funny and all around fascinating eleventh century memoir by a Japanese lady of the court. It’s not for everyone but you’ll know whether it is or not within the first few pages. I read the Meredith McKinney translation.
Ardhakathanak: A Half Story
Resistance: My Life for Lebanon
Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal?
Dear Genius: The Letters of Ursula Nordstrom
Jerusalem: Chronicles From the Holy City
Munnu: A Boy From Kashmir
I haven’t finished Three Centuries of Travel Writing by Muslim Women or Annie Dillard’s Teaching a Stone to Talk but I’m enjoying those too.
