I have turned 16 recently and I am a female.
For reference I have read a bit of classics ranging from Austen to Steinbeck, however, I’ve never really gotten into Russian literature such as Dosteyevsky nor Nabokov-
And I’ve recently stumbled across Lolita, and I am purchasing it, but is there anything I should know before hand reading it? Because I have discussed with my parents upon the purchase and they were quite against it-
- Is there anything I need to know before hand?
- Why do so many people drop it?
- Is it worth the time and read- if not I’ll probably read my Scarlet letter book first-

My recommendation is to not read any replies to this thread and not read articles until you’ve tried to read it yourself. Just read it. If you don’t like it, stop reading it and move on.
