Planning a staycation where I’ll mostly just be hanging out in hammock reading.
About me: I’m a 40 year old woman who was the kind of teenager who read dense Russian literature for fun but has grown to deeply appreciate the beach read as well. I’m not too into things that feel too “genre” when it comes to mysteries, fantasies, sci-fi, romance novels. I do not enjoy erotic fiction. But a well-rounded book can, of course, have those elements! Not interested in anything in a genre series (aka no Bridgerton, Game of Thrones, etc.)
To me, the ideal “hammock” book might be something by Jeffrey Eugenides, Liane Moriarty, or Matt Haig. Digestable books that deeply explore characters while still feeling like something Oprah would have put a stamp on back in the 90s. I don’t hate chick lit – I loved Bridget Jones, the Devil Wears Prada and the Nanny Diaries when they came out. I’m basic enough to like a solid New York Times Bestseller that might be made into a streaming miniseries or a movie.
A fantastic recommendation for me may have been My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh but unfortunately I’ve already read it.
Any recommendations?
