I decided it was time for me to take my first dive into the thriller genre. I went with the classic Gone Girl expecting it to be really good due to all the hype. Unfortunately, I read up to part one and I decided to stop. I just couldn't continue reading it anymore. I hated this book with a passion. I hated both the main characters Amy and Nick. And the plot was incredibly slow and incredulous. And as far as the "plot twist" goes it was funny because I hated Amy from the very beginning that I jokingly told myself, "I bet you this girl is doing 'plot twist'." Come to find out that at the end of part one when we get the big reveal I was actually right? I laughed and that's when I knew it was time to put this awful book down. I really don't understand the hype. I don't care to finish it at all.
Since I hated this classic thriller will I hate all thrillers? Are thrillers just not for me? I bought a few other "classic" thrillers: The Silent Patient and The Girl on The Train. Is it even worth taking a dive into those books if I couldn't even finish Gone Girl? Are there better books out there? I'm open to other thriller book suggestions to try out.
