Looking for literary horror novels with some sort of sharp social commentary
I was thinking today about how much I loved Tender is the Flesh when I read it last year, and now I’m in the mood to read a novel of that nature. Looking for something thought-provoking and fully engrossing.
*The Picture of Contented New Wealth* by Tariq Goddard is perfect reply to thread title but a book called ‘Tender Is the Flesh’ sounds more mass-markety than literaryso I’m not sure it’s the sort of thing you’re looking for?

Tender is the Flesh is the first book I thought of when I read the title haha. Maybe Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield.
