I just started three separate novels by different authors (two cozy mysteries and a romance) that I happened to have on my Kindle. All three happened to be first person POV and launched with mean-spirited, petty narrations. (Mocking other women's appearance, men's height, people's jobs, their cars, etc.) Is this a modern trend? IDK. It seemed like it was meant to be cute and relatable.
I had just come off a good reading bender that included James Herriot, Barbara Cartland, and Gene Stratton Porter.
I'm looking for more books like that. At the risk of sounding sappy, I want some mellow / relaxing reading that prizes kindness. Can you recommend me anything?
