Standalone adult fiction book that manages to successfully juggle a large ensemble cast of characters?

Basically like game of thrones but a singular book. No sequel hooking. No later entries. No expanded universe. All a singular book. Adult fiction, so the hobbit doesn't qualify. I'm not looking for "just okay". I'm looking for excellent execution of character arcs across a multitude of characters. And a large cast of characters (at least 10, ideally more). And I'd rather it not read like a short story collection. I'm not interested in Hyperion, for example.

Any suggestions?
