I know there’s a million Studio Ghibli type posts on this subreddit but all the suggestions tend to be YA or fantasy, which are two genres I’m not really interested in.
Here’s some of the things I find special in Ghibli movies:
* Themes – conservation, anti-capital, joys of childhood, magic of nature
* Character-development and just well nuanced characters in general
* Beautiful cinematography, and slow moments that do more than just serve a plot
I feel like there can be many examples of books that give Ghibli vibes that can have beautiful prose, good characters, and not such a constant focus on plot which are all aspects that YA or modern fantasy just don’t do.
