I am currently working on the 3rd draft of a historical fiction novel, and I am trying to find some books to read to possibly use as comp titles when I start querying.
My novel is set in 1860 Schwarzwald, Germany. It features a timid, imaginative 17-yo girl whose father marries her off to a bachelor of about his age, for the money and the reputation. This man is a retired opera singer who lives in a restored castle ruin (not big), whose family is known by their cold demeanor and condescension. The people of the nearby villagers say he is a werewolf who killed his parents. He has a strange attachment to the moon. The girl is trying to figure out if these rumors are true, and while she does so she is haunted by strange apparitions of a woman who threatens the man’s doom. It has a redemption arc and a coming of age arc.
I would preferably like books published in the last 5 years. Please nothing with gore, smut or swearing. Thanks!
