I love classic literature, but I feel restricted by my information bubble. There are so many books and authors I've never heard of just because I happen to live somewhere else, where other books get the spotlight. My question is: What are your favorite classics from where you live?
I'm from Poland, so my reccs are:
- "Sklepy Cynamonowe" ("The Cinnamon Shops") – Bruno Schulz
- "Lalka" ("The Doll") – Bolesław Prus
- "Chłopi" ("The Peasants") – Władysław Reymont
These are pretty basic choices for someone who went to school in Poland, but I like them most:^)

I will suggest both my home country where I spent 27 years and Germany where I have spent the current 5 years:
1. India
-> God of Small things – Arundhati Roy
-> Midnight’s children – Salman Rushdie
-> Train to Pakistan – Khuswant Singh
-> Karma Yoga – Swami viveknand (philosophy, spirituality).
-> The Last question – Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay
2. Germany
-> The Book Thief
USA – personal favorites
*Fahrenheit 451* Ray Bradbury
*Gone With the Wind* Margaret Mitchell
*The Fountainhead* Ayn Rand
*To Kill a Mockingbird* Harper Lee
The Book Of Five Rings , Miyamoto Musashi. The writings of Cicero and Marcus Aurelius. The Prince , Machiavelli.
Elmer Kelton’s *The Time it Never Rained* offered a marvelous fictional account of life in West Texas in the 1950’s. He really nailed those characters. As someone from the area, reading it felt like hearing stories about people I had known my whole life.
