Here’s hoping someone can help me!
I teach advanced English to adults and need to select a fiction book to read next year. We usually read “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah, that is the only book we have found that people universally like. They enjoy it very much and usually actually read it. Mind you, part of the problem is that 80% of adults read absolutely nothing!
Other books that we have chosen are Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “The Thing Around Your Neck”, “The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears” by Dinaw Mengestu, some Alice Munro…But those weren’t that much of a hit. I need something linguistically complex but not extremely complicated (for instance, “Handmaid’s Tale” would be a little difficult for them). For reference, in the level below they read “About a Boy”, by Nick Hornby.
Thanks!!
