After hearing many positive reviews and recommendations for this novel I started reading Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield and I’m now about 60 pages in.
Just wondering if anyone else knows what time this book is set in? It was published in 2022, but they have a landline, live in kind of a grungy undisclosed city, and at one point Leah described a character as having “lost all but the cigarette fingers and thumb on his left hand” and like maybe I’m just out of the loop but what are the ‘cigarette fingers’ and why does it sound like a description from the 1950s?
Also I’m interested in what happened to Leah, but lately I’ve been wanting to just skip all of Miri’s chapters. All she’s describing is how Leah is staring off into space and then her annoying friend. Does her POV get better?
If anyone has read the book, please let me know if you think the ending is worth the slow start! I will be finishing it, I just want to know if the pace gets faster as the book goes on.
