The Sympathizer remains one of my favorite books of all time, and it wasn’t after watching the underrated HBO special (highly recommend) that my craving for such a perspective was reborn. Does anyone have any suggestions for fiction books that weave a narrative that acts as commentary on government, human nature, western culture, and other topics without feeling heavy-handed and spoonfed? My favorite part about the Sympathizer was how reserved Viet Thanh Nguyen was with his commentary, allowing you to come to your own conclusions and focusing more on human vulnerability.
