this is a somewhat specific request but I'm hoping someone can find a couple books that fit it! i adore fantasy religions and stories that include stuff like priesthood, convents, monks/nuns and anything along those veins. i don't like reading about IRL religions because I'm doing this for escapism, and I've never really liked books with gods as actual speaking characters who are involved in the plot.
what i want is a fantasy book focused around a fantasy religion without the gods of that religion stepping in and involving themselves in the plot. whether that means the mc is a priest equivalent, grew up in the religion and turned away from it, or decided to convert to it for some reason, i don't have a preference for any of that! as long as religion is a big plot point in the book and the gods don't actually get involved i'd like to check it out!
