So, I never watched any movies from the franchise, but I decided to read the books first. In my head, Bond was a tough as nails, superhero spy. Like a Rambo with a suit and lot more class. But what was my surprise when I see a character that lost bets, get's captured and beat up constantly and fall for every women he sees.
I finished the fifth book in the series written by Ian Fleming, "From Russia, with Love". The books are getting better, but they are pretty basic. I was expecting something like Tom Clancy/Frederick Forsyth but with more fantasy, but no. The books are fast and fun reads, with the exception of the second book, that was atrocious.
If you can get past the fact of some ridiculous concepts of the old times (Bond is kinda mysoginist, but it gets better after the third book), the books are pretty fun. I don't think it's gonna be everyone cup of tea, but I'm liking it.
