I hate having to invest in a long complex interweaving story that requires three or more books. Let me know what your favourite one-off sci-fi/ fantasy novel is! I just read an old one… All These Earths by F.M. Busby
P.S. Rothfuss is pissing me OFF!!!

American Gods by Neil Gaiman
Recently I loved Tigana. It’s one and done! Also Solaris. No sequels to that one that I know of!
Piranesi is also a stand alone
piranesi, The light brigade, A canticle for Liebowitz, The moon is a hard mistress.
The zones of thought is a series, but excluding the third book (which is a bit lacking I think) they can be read independently and have very little relation to one another
Same goes for the world of 5 gods. technically a series, but work as stand alones
andy weir, neal stephenson, and neil gaiman are favorite authors of mine and tend to write stand alones.
hyperion, dune, and gateway are some favorites where you can just read the first book. (especially with dune). Ilium and olympus is only two books if that counts
Nettle and Bone by T Kingfisher is a great quick read.
Gods of Jade and Shadow
Mogworld by Yahtzee Croshaw. Main character is undead. Hijinks insue.
