As summer approaches I set myself a challenge to try to read a work of fiction written by an author from each of the seven continents. To get me out of my usual comfort zone I am also trying to read a work by a contemporary author. The rules I set for myself is a follows:

Author must be born on the continent and preferably active on the same continent. The continents for tasks being: North America, South America, Europe (including Russia), Africa, Asia and Australia/Oceania (I include New Zeeland, Indonesia, Polynesia, Micronesia, Melanesia here). I figured I’d leave Antarctica out , but I’m happy to be surprised.

The book must have been written after the year 2000.

The book must be available in translation to English or Swedish but can be written in any language.
I am also interested in trying to read younger authors, but I am more flexible on this point. So far the one continent I have found a book for is South America with “The MANIAC” by Benjamín Labatut being my current choice.
I usually tend to enjoy historical and genre fiction (mostly science fiction and fantasy) but as part of the challenge is to read outside my comfort zone I am open to most genres and suggestions. I historically read a lot of Japanese literature so Asian literature from other countries would be appreciated. Any and all suggestions are welcome!
