Entertaining and gripping from the get-go? Leah McGrath Goodman’s “The Asylum”. It’s a two and a half night page-turner. Also non-fiction.

It’s technically a romance but has some grounded sci fi elements. It’s a great read, a deep plot, and interesting characters. Think Sleepless in Seattle meets Back to the Future.
