Long story short, I messed up in the friend department. I have since apologized a few times and she assured me everything was fine now.. but I can tell it really isn’t completely fine. I think she’s still more hurt than she’s letting on. I would like to send her a book (she loves reading those young adult fantasy/romance type books) as a “I’m sorry again for being a s*** friend” gift. Hopefully it will help soften her towards the matter and be the olive branch I need to help us start mending the damage I did to our friendship.

So if you could please suggest me a standalone type book, that is the YA fantasy/romance genre, I would greatly appreciate it! Also, will accept recommendations for books about repairing friendships (if there is such a thing).

    1. Why not get her a hot new release so that she won’t have to wait for it on hold at the library? A Crane Among Wolves came out a couple of weeks ago, has good reviews so far, and is on sale at Amazon in hardcover. Finding true standalone YA fantasies is kind of tough without knowing what the recipient has read. The Night Circus (Erin Morgenstern) is great and standalone. Heartless, by Marissa Meyer, is good and could introduce her to a whole world without being the beginning of a series (it’s related to a series, but I personally like the series better—starts with Cinder). The Naomi Novik books like Spinning Silver and Uprooted can be read as one-offs, but there are more if she loves it. The Ten Thousand Doors of January may work. If you wanted to take her in a different direction, more YA mystery with some odd elements, the series that starts with Truly, Devious (Maureen Johnson) is really good and has a lot about the complexities of being a good friend when you’re still figuring yourself out.
